Title: Nuclear engineering installation

Claims: There are claimed:

1. Nuclear engineering installation having a concrete tank enclosing activity-carrying components of the installation, the concrete tank being covered by a hill formed of earth, comprising means for connecting to the interior of the concrete tank a region of relatively lower density in the hill, said region being spaced from the surface of the hill, said connecting means being pressure-dependently openable.

2. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1, wherein said region of relatively low density is disposed in a lowermost part of the hill formed of earth piled up thereon.

3. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1 wherein the concrete tank is covered at the upper side thereof with a dense layer of clay material.

4. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1 wherein the concrete tank is surrounded by a layer of material, said region of relatively low density being located outside said layer of material.

5. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1 including a water-impermeable layer separating said region of relatively low density from the groundwater table of the earth.

6. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 5 including a pipe connected to said region of relatively low density and disposed above the groundwater table.

7. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1 including a protective layer of material disposed on the surface of the hill of earth above said region of relatively low density for protecting against uncontrolled infiltration of rainwater.

8. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 7 wherein said protective layer is formed of clay material.

9. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 7 including a discharge line extending from the inside of the hill through said protective layer and having a cross section substantially equal to that of said pressure-dependently openable connecting means.

10. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1 including a containment for enclosing components of a primary circulatory loop, said containment being disposed in the concrete tank, and a safety valve connecting the interior of said containment with the interior of said concrete tank.

11. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 10 wherein said safety valve is responsive to a pressure greater than that to which said pressure-dependently openable connecting means is responsive.

12. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1 including, in the hill, a plurality of regions of relatively lower density connected to the concrete tank, and further including impermeable layers of earth separating said regions from one another, from the concrete tank and from other regions in the hill essential to safety.

13. Nuclear engineering installation according to claim 1 including, in the hill, a plurality of regions of relatively low density separated from one another and a plurality of concrete tanks associated with said regions of relatively low density.
