Claims: What we claim is:

1. A pro-drug compound of the formula: ##STR17## wherein R is a member selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylsulfonyl, phenylsulfonyl, p-tolylsulfonyl and naphthylsulfonyl.

2. A pro-drug compound of the formula: ##STR18## wherein X and Y each represent a member selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and ##STR19## with the proviso that either X or Y is a hydrogen atom, R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkylsulfonyl, phenylsulfonyl, p-tolylsulfonyl and naphthylsulfonyl, and R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of straight or branched chain C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl and phenyl.

3. The compound of claim 1:

1,2-Diphenyl-4-butyl-5-(4'-methylphenylsulfonyloxy)-4-pyrazolin-3-one.

4. The compound of claim 1:

1,2-Diphenyl-4-butyl-5-methylsulfonyloxy-4-pyrazolin-3-one.

5. The compound of claim 1:

1,2-Diphenyl-4-butyl-5-ethylsulfonyloxy-4-pyrazolin-3-one.

6. The compound of claim 2:

1-(4'-Acetyloxyphenyl)-2-phenyl-4-butyl-5-(4'-methylphenylsulfonyloxy)-4-py razolin-3-one.

7. The compound of claim 2:
