What is claimed is:
1. In a plurality of documents bound together by a clinched staple passing therethrough, a method of disengaging the staple from said documents comprising the steps of applying a pressure to opposite sides of said plurality of documents and to the portions of the staple located on said opposite sides of said documents sufficient to cause each of said portions to penetrate into and sever the connected documents, and
separating the documents from the staple.
2. The method as claimed in claim 1 including the steps of engaging each of the exposed portions of the staple with a relatively rigid member and applying a compressive force to said members to effect movement of said staple portions into said documents to effect a cutting thereof.
3. The method as claimed in claim 1 including the step of compressing the staple portions toward each other so that each portion passes through only a portion of the plurality of documents.
4. A method of disengaging a staple from a plurality of documents bound together by said staple including the steps of compressing said staple to displace at least one of the portions of the staple exposed on one of the two sides of the documents towards the other of the two sides of the documents to sever the documents, and disengaging the staple from said severed documents.
5. The method as claimed in claim 4 including the step of displacing said staple portion through all of the documents.
6. The method as claimed in claim 4 including the step of displacing the other of the portions of the staple exposed on the other side of the documents towards said one portion of the staple whereby both staple portions sever at least some of the documents.
7. A method as claimed in claim 6 including the steps of offsetting both portions of the staple into different planes transverse to the surfaces of the documents, and displacing both portions through substantially all of the documents.
8. The method as claimed in claim 6 including the steps of displacing both portions of the staple through only some of the documents while maintaining those portions in substantially the same plane.
9. The method as claimed in claim 6 including the step of deforming said staple and compressing the portions towards each other to effect said displacement of the staple through the documents.
10. A method of disengaging a staple from a plurality of documents bound together by said staple including the steps of:
disposing said staple and documents between a pair of relatively rigid force applying members, compressing said staple between said members by applying a sufficient force to effect movement of at least one of the portions of said staple exposed on one side of said documents through said documents to effect severing of said documents, whereby said staple may be disengaged from the documents, and
separating the documents from the staple.
11. The method as claimed in claim 1 including the step of effecting reorientation of said staple to a position substantially perpendicular to its original orientation, whereby said staple lies substantially between said opposite sides of said plurality of documents.
12. The method as claimed in claim 11 including the step of displacing said staple portion sufficiently to cause both of said portions to sever substantially all of said plurality of documents.
13. The method as claimed in claim 4 including the step of effecting reorientation of said staple to a position substantially perpendicular to its orientation, compressing said staple to displace both of said staple portions sufficiently to cause both of said portions to sever substantially all of said plurality of documents, whereby said staple lies substantially between said opposite sides of said plurality of documents.
14. The method as claimed in claim 10 including the step of compressing said staple between said members so that all of the portions of said staple lie substantially between said both sides of said documents.
15. The method as claimed in claim 14 including the step or reorienting said staple sufficiently so the portions of said staple exposed on both sides of said documents sever substantially all of said documents.
16. A method as claimed in claim 15 including the step or reorienting said staple so said compressed staple lies in a plane substantially perpendicular to its original orientation.
