I claim:
1. A bacterial composition useful for changing the digestive system bacteria in animals when fed orally which comprises:
live Lactobacillus lactis NRRL-B-5628 mixed with a growth medium and a freezing stabilizing agent and which mixture is cooled such that at least about fifty percent of the bacteria in the mixture are viable for about 24 hours.
2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the growth medium includes milk fermented by the Lactobacillus lactis NRRL-B-5628 which is in a dosage form for feeding to unweaned baby pigs.
3. The composition of claim 1 cooled to a temperature less than about 10.degree.C and in a dosage form for metering into drinking water for the animals based upon the water intake of the animal.
4. The composition of claim 1 which is frozen to less than about minus 28.9.degree.C as a concentrate containing in the range of about 1.0 .times. 10.sup.9 to 1 .times. 10.sup.11 cells per ml.
