Claims: Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

1. The method of preparing an interactive lecture, comprising the steps of audibly reproducibly recording a lecture on a record medium, reproducing the lecture from said record medium for a plurality of listeners, soliciting questions from the listeners relating to points in the lecture, assembling from the questions so solicited a list of questions to be answered, recording audible answers to the questions on said list in audibly reproducible form on a second record medium in a sequence corresponding to the order in which the questions would most probably be asked in the course of the lecture, marking the locations of said recorded answers on said second record medium to facilitate the location and audible reproduction of any desired answer on the recording, and preparing a visually interpretable guide to the lecture including a list of the questions to which answers have been recorded and instructions for identifying the answers to each question from the markings on said second recording medium.

2. The method of preparing a set of sound recordings for use by an individual of a selected class to approximate a learning conversation between that individual and an expert, comprising the steps of recording on a sound recording medium a discourse on a selected topic by the expert, soliciting questions related to the recording from listeners representative of said class, assembling from the solicited questions a list of questions to be answered, recording on a second sound recording medium audible answers to said list of questions by said expert, marking the locations of said recorded answers on said second sound recording medium to facilitate the location of any desired answer on said second recording medium, and preparing a visually interpretable guide to the recordings including a list of the questions to which answers have been recorded and instructions for identifying the answers to each question from the markings on said second recording medium.

3. The method of preparing answer recordings as reproducible audio signals on a sound recording medium for use in an interactive learning system which audibly answers questions related to an audibly recorded lecture, comprising the steps of: soliciting questions related to the recorded lecture from listeners representative of the class of listeners for whom the material is intended; assembling from the solicited questions a list of questions to be answered; reproducibly recording answers to the questions as audio signals on a sound recording medium; re-recording the answers as audio signals on a second sound recording medium in the order in which the questions tend to arise in the lecture; marking the locations of the recorded answers on said second recording medium to facilitate the location of any desired answer on said second recording medium; and preparing a guide map to the lecture and answer recordings including a list of the questions to which answers have been recorded, lines indicating for each part of the lecture the related answered questions, and instructions for locating each answer in the answer recording on said second recording medium.

4. The method of preparing an interactive lecture, comprising the steps of recording a lecture on one or more magnetic lecture tapes, reproducing the lecture from said lecture tape or tapes for a plurality of listeners, soliciting questions from the listeners relating to points in the lecture, assembling from the questions so solicited a list of questions to be answered, recording answers to the questions on said list on one or more magnetic answer tapes in a sequence corresponding to the order in which the questions would most probably be asked in the course of the lecture, marking the locations of said recorded answers on said answer tapes to facilitate the location of any desired answer on the recording, and preparing a visually perceptible guide to the lecture including a list of the questions to which answers have been recorded and instructions for identifying the answers to each question from the markings on the answer tape recordings.

5. The method of preparing a set of sound recordings and a cooperative guide for use by an individual of a selected class to approximate a learning conversation between that individual and an expert, comprising the steps of making a reproducible sound recording of a discourse on a selected topic by the expert, soliciting questions related to the recording from listeners representative of said class, assembling from the solicited questions a list of questions to be answered, making a reproducible sound recording of answers to said list of questions by said expert, marking the locations of said recorded answers on said answer sound recording to facilitate the location of any desired answer on the recording, and preparing a perceptible guide to the recordings including a list of the questions to which answers have been recorded and instruction for identifying the answers to each question from the markings on said answer sound recording.

6. The method of preparing answer recordings for use in an interactive learning system which answers questions related to a reproducibly recorded audible lecture, comprising the steps of: soliciting questions related to the recorded lecture from listeners representative of the class of listeners for whom the material is intended; assembling from the solicited questions a list of questions to be answered; making a reproducible sound recording of answers to the questions in the order in which the questions tend to arise in the lecture; marking the locations of said recorded answers on said sound recording to facilitate the location of any desired answer on the recording; and preparing a perceptible guide to the lecture and answer recordings including a list of the questions to which answers have been recorded, lines indicating for each part of the lecture the related answered questions, and instructions for locating each answer in the answer recording.
