Abstract: A 2-(α-substituted alkyl)-2-imidazoline represented by the general formula I: ##STR1## wherein R1 represents a C6 -C20 alkyl or alkenyl group and R2 represents a C1 -C4 alkyl group which is novel and useful as an intermediate for useful surfactants and polymer-modifiers.
