Title:
Process for producing ethylene glycol
Abstract:
Ethylene glycol is prepared by reacting methanol, formaldehyde and from greater than 6 to about 25 weight percent of an organic peroxide in the presence of about 0.5 to about 35 weight percent of water based on the feed composition, the amount of water within said range being correlated with the peroxide content. The organic peroxide has the formula R--O--O--R1 wherein R and R1 are each an alkyl or aralkyl group having 3 to 12 carbon atoms.
