Method of surface hardening stainless steel parts
Abstract:
A method of surface hardening stainless steel parts for increasing their wear and fatigue resistance comprises (a) subjecting the surface of the stainless steel part to a salt bath containing, by weight, up to 0.5% sulphur, 4-30% of a cyanide, and 10-30% of a cyanate, for a time period of a few minutes to two hours, at a temperature of 540.degree.-600.degree. C.; and (b) then subjecting the stainless steel part to a nitriding process.
