Title: Prequench cooling for galvanized tubing

Abstract: Steel strip is continuously roll-formed into tubular shape, seam-welded and coated with zinc in a galvanizing bath. The coated tubing is promptly cooled by a prequench flow of cooling water flowing in the direction of movement of the tubing, thus superficially hardening the zinc. Water is pumped into the prequench zone through passageways arranged radial to the tubing and at an angle between 20.degree. and 40.degree. to the direction of movement. Final cooling is effected by immersion in a water bath. Heavier and smoother zinc coatings can be applied as a result.
