Title: Method for the manufacture of phenols

Abstract: A method for the production of phenols which comprises subjecting alkylaromatic hydrocarbons to liquid-phase oxidation with oxygen at a temperature of 100.degree.-300.degree. C and under a pressure of 1-100 atm in the presence of an acidic catalyst taken in an amount of 0.0006-10 mole % and also in the presence of carboxylic acid anhydrides or chlorides, followed by saponifying the resulting phenolic esters.
