Abstract: Method of and apparatus for producing roving with a controlled number of strands including means for advancing a linear element along a given path; means for directing light to the element for reflection therefrom; means for sensing changes in the reflected light as an indication of changes in the speed of the elements advancement; means for supplying a signal in response to the changing reflected light; and means for controlling the advancement of the element in response to the signal.
