Title: Reactance controller

Abstract: The invention comprises a reactive device inserted within the secondary circuit of a power transformer connected to a AC transmission line which can be controlled in both inductive and compacitive modes with step changes being achieved by switching capacitors and/or inductors with suitable fast acting switches. If required, continuous changes in reactants, as for example, between switching steps, can be added by incorporating a saturated reactor or a thyristor controlled reactor.
