Abstract: Halogenated 4-trifluoromethyl-4'-cyano-diphenyl-ether compounds of the formula ##SPC1## In which R is hydrogen, halogen, alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or alkylthio of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Are outstandingly effective as herbicides, particularly as selective herbicides.
