Title: Methods and compositions for increasing growth rate and feed efficiency of animals

Abstract: Methods and compositions utilizing certain local anesthetic derivatives which increase growth rate and feed efficiency of animals, particularly ruminants. The preferred compounds to be used as active ingredients are local anesthetics, such as, for example, mepivacaine hydrochloride, bupivacaine hydrochloride, tetracaine hydrochloride, and oxethazainechloro hydrochloride.
