Title: Method of inerting the atmosphere above a moving product

Abstract: The method for inerting the surface of a moving product involves; passing a stream of inert gas, having a width at least equal to the width of the product, into an enclosure through which the product is to pass and in the direction of the product so as to impinge upon the product surface at a predetermined angle with respect thereto and having a velocity component in a direction opposing the advancing product and a magnitude at least substantially equal to the velocity of the product.
