Title: Magnetic recording and reproducing system having an automatic tape drive control function

Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproducing system using a one-reel catridge tape, which is provided at its leading end with a leader tape wider and more rigid than the magnetic tape and wound on a supply reel accommodated in a protective case, the tape being automatically loaded with the leader tape guided to a take-up reel through a leader tape guide having a slit extending in the direction of tape travel and wider than the magnetic tape but narrower than the leader tape. The system is provided with an automatic tape drive control circuit for effecting sequential control of the tape drive in various timings such as when commencing the loading of the tape, at the end of the tape loading, upon detection of the trailing end of the magnetic tape and at the end of the rewinding. Further, there is provided means for preventing the malfunctioning of the system in case trouble occurs in the tape progress detection means.
