Title: Process for the conversion of 3-methyl-3-hydroxycepham compounds

Abstract: A 7-imido-3-methyl-3-hydroxycepham-4-carboxylic acid ester is reacted with a halogen reagent in the presence of an alkaline reagent to produce 2-halomethylpenams and a 3-methyl-3-cephem compound.
