Abstract: Carboxylic acid alkyl esters are prepared by reacting an halo-alkane with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid, using ammonia, a primary amine, a secondary amine, a heavy tertiary amine or a heavy quaternary ammonium salt as the catalyst.
